Is your pet being affected by hidden toxins in their environment?

Heavy metals like aluminum, mercury, arsenic, and lead can be found in food, water, grooming products, toys, and even in the dirt or surfaces your pet explores. Dogs and cats often come into contact with these toxins by chewing on toys, licking floors, eating grass or dirt. These exposures may place stress on the body, impacting digestion, behavior, and energy levels.

The 5Strands Pet Heavy Metal Sensitivity Test evaluates how your dog or cat is responding to 67 common metals using the hair sample you've already provided. This test does not measure the amount of metal in their system, it uncovers which metals may be difficult for your pet to process upon exposure.

IMPORTANT: Our lab must have received your pet’s hair sample within the past 60 days, otherwise a physical test kit must be purchased with the digital upgrade.

Your pet’s response is measured against 67 metals including aluminium, arsenic, barium, cadmium, chromium, cobalt, copper, gold, iodine, iron, lead, lithium, magnesium, manganese, mercury, molybdenum, nickel, palladium, platinum, selenium, silver, tin, titanium, uranium, zinc, and many more rare earth and trace metals. Knowing these sensitivities gives you insight into potential environmental stressors your pet may encounter daily.

No new hair sample is needed if your pet’s hair sample was received by our lab within the past 60 days. Simply purchase the test, and updated results will be uploaded to your 5Strands account within 3 days.

Your pet’s sensitivity results are divided into 4 levels so you can see how their body is responding to different exposures. This structure helps you know what to avoid completely, what to limit, and what is generally safe in moderation.

Step-by-Step Elimination Plan:

Step 1: Remove all Red (High Sensitivity) items for 6–8 weeks. These should be completely avoided, whether that means changing cleaning products, avoiding certain outdoor areas, or switching food and water sources if metals are flagged.

Step 2: Steer clear of Yellow (Moderate Sensitivity) items whenever you can. If they can’t be eliminated completely, cut back your pet's exposure to them.

Step 3: Reduce exposure to Green (Mild Sensitivity) items. These are generally tolerated in small amounts, but frequent or long-term contact can still contribute to symptoms.

Step 4: Grey (No Significant Response) items are considered safe for your pet. They can be part of your pet’s environment without concern.

Step 5: Continue monitoring after changes. If symptoms lessen, you may try reintroducing some exposures in a controlled way. Retesting every 4 months helps you track progress as seasons shift, environments change, or your pet’s overall health improves.

Frequently Asked Questions

Pets are exposed more often than we realize. Water bowls, metal food cans, old pipes, fertilizers, and even household dust can all contain trace metals. Some animals process these exposures without trouble, but for others they build up as hidden stress.

No. It doesn’t measure levels the way a blood or urine test would. Instead, it shows how your pet’s system responds to the energetic frequency of metals, pointing to potential stress or reduced tolerance.

They vary. Some pets show fatigue, itching, or recurring skin issues. Others may have digestive upset, mood changes, or lowered resilience to illness. Because these signs are vague, they’re often misattributed to other causes.

The report highlights which metals may be stressing your pet most. With that information, you can look at practical steps like filtering drinking water, changing food containers, or reviewing diet choices. Many owners also share results with their veterinarian for guidance.

Yes. Results capture your pet’s current state. As diet, environment, and overall health improve, sensitivities may lessen or resolve. Retesting helps track whether adjustments are reducing strain.

Knowing that allergies are only the root cause a small percentage of the time, I have found 5Strands' test to be the least invasive and most thorough intolerance and sensitivity testing I have used in the last 28 years of practice.

After using 5Strands, we uncovered a surprising range of sensitivities in our dog—not just the usual suspects, but things we never would’ve guessed. From ingredients in his daily food and treats to environmental chemicals, molds, and even plants, the results gave us a full picture of what might be affecting him. Now we’re one step closer to finding the root cause of his nonstop scratching and finally giving him the relief he deserves.
