Everyday items like food, water, cookware, or household products can expose pets to heavy metals. Some animals are able to handle the exposure with no issues, while others may develop fatigue, skin irritation, or behavioral changes over time. The 5Strands Pet Heavy Metal Sensitivity Test checks over 65 common metals with a simple hair sample, giving you insight into which exposures may be adding stress to your pet’s health. This allows you to manage their daily exposure and minimize symptoms.

Aluminium (Al), Osmium (Os), Antimony (Sb), Palladium (Pd), Arsenic (As), Phosphorus (P), Barium (Ba), Platinum (Pt), Beryllium (Be), Polonium (Po), Bismuth (Bi), Radium (Ra), Cadmium (Cd), Rhodium (Rh), Caesium (Cs), Rubidium (Rb), Chromium (Cr), Ruthenium (Ru), Cobalt (Co), Scandium (Sc), Copper (Cu), Selenium (Se), Gold (Au), Silver (Ag), Iron (Ferrous) (Fe), Strontium (Sr), Lead (Pb), Thallium (Th), Lithium (Li), Tin (Sn), Magnesium (Mg), Titanium (Ti), Manganese (Mn), Tungsten (W), Mercury (Hg), Uranium (U), Molybdenum (Mo), Vanadium (V), Nickel (Ni), Zinc (Zn), Niobium (Nb), Zirconium (Zr)

Once you receive your pet heavy metal imbalance test kit: (1) Register your pet's 5Strands kit via our mobile app or on 5Strands.com using the unique ID code inside your box. (2) Collect 10-15 strands of your pet's hair. No root required. (3) Use the prepaid envelope to send your pet's hair sample back to our lab. (4) Once the sample arrives, your results will be delivered to you in 4 business days. (5) After 60 days, the sample will be permanently disposed of.

Heavy metal exposure builds up silently. Pets can take in lead, mercury, arsenic, and other metals from food, water, soil, or the environment. Over time, these metals accumulate faster than the body can eliminate them. Retesting every 4 months helps you identify excess levels early—before they start draining energy, stressing organs, or triggering health issues.

The results are clear and simple:

Grey: No excess detected, safe levels.
Green: Mild excess, early signs of buildup.
Yellow: Moderate excess, concerning levels that may strain detox pathways.
Red: Severe excess, high levels already likely affecting health.

By acting on these results, you can reduce exposure, support detoxification, and protect your pet’s long-term wellbeing. It’s not just about what they’re exposed to—it’s about how much their body is carrying.

Knowing that allergies are only the root cause a small percentage of the time, I have found 5Strands' test to be the least invasive and most thorough intolerance and sensitivity testing I have used in the last 28 years of practice.

After using 5Strands, we uncovered a surprising range of sensitivities in our dog—not just the usual suspects, but things we never would’ve guessed. From ingredients in his daily food and treats to environmental chemicals, molds, and even plants, the results gave us a full picture of what might be affecting him. Now we’re one step closer to finding the root cause of his nonstop scratching and finally giving him the relief he deserves.

Mitigate Your Pet’s Exposure To Triggering Items

Pets come into contact with potential triggers every day, from the food in their bowls to the water they drink and the surfaces they walk on. Some of these items may contain metals, additives, or other substances that place stress on their system and lead to issues like skin irritation, low energy, or digestive upset.

By identifying which exposures cause problems, you can take simple steps to limit them. That may mean choosing different food, using filtered water, or swapping out certain household products. Reducing contact with these triggers helps ease discomfort and supports your pet’s overall health.
